Tenyo T-262 Magic Butterfly
Sou Sato

2014

Examinable : No / Non
Quality and finish : Very good / Tres bonne

English:
In this truly unique magic effect, the magician magically produces a butterfly of a chosen color, on a pin inside of a box that was previously shown empty. Every item used in this trick contains a clever gimmick, and the combination of these gimmicks produces an extremely baffling magic effect that is beautiful and easy-to-do. The specimen box may also be used for other routines without a butterfly theme. For instance, the box allows you to transform or produce pieces of paper, or coins containing a central hole.
Cover the empty specimen box. Show your spectator a number of cards containing various colored butterflies, and invite her to choose one.  Remove the cover to show that a butterfly of precisely the chosen color has magically appeared, pinned inside the specimen box!

English:
The magician places a regulation die on top of a solid metal sheet, and covers the die with a cloth, to hold it in place. The die is unable to move in any direction. Upon the magician’s command, the die visually penetrates through the metal sheet and falls into a cup below! Your audience can see the die through the cloth up until the last moment, as it slowly penetrates downward. The magical effect is stunning! This is a pocket-sized stage illusion that you can share with audiences, right in front of their eyes.
Place the die on top of the metal sheet, and cover it with the cloth attached to the frame. Your audience can see the die through the cloth material. The die suddenly begins to slowly sink downward… The die penetrates completely through, and falls below the metal sheet!

Tenyo-ism

Message from Richard Kaufman,

Here's the info!

After two years of intensive work, we’re pleased to announce that Tenyo-ism will be available for shipping this coming June/July. The layout of almost 1,400 pages is complete and we are now in the final round of proofreading, with every detail being checked by Hiroshi Kondo and Tomoyuki Shimomura, both of whom worked in Tenyo’s Creative Division for many decades.

The books contain an entry on every trick which Tenyo has marketed outside Japan, as well as most of the tricks sold only in Japan, since 1964.

With an introduction by David Copperfield and a new essay by musician Alan Parsons, the book is divided into four main sections:

1. An overview of the history of Tenyo Shokyokusai and the origin of the Tenyo Magic Lab; and it’s growth under his son Akira Yamada into the Tenyo Company Ltd.

2. An item-by-item chronological review of virtually every Tenyo effect released since 1965, including many items sold only in Japan, such as the Plus One series and the Magician’s Selection series. Many prototypes for effects are discussed, including the original handlings for numerous Tenyo effects. There are also an enormous number of new handlings for many familiar Tenyo tricks not only by the Tenyo staff, but also by Dr. Sawa. Tom Stone, R. Paul Wilson, Dick Koornwinder, Tomas Blomberg, Dan Harlan, Michael Weber, Sebastian Clergue, Akira Fujii, Kazuyuki Hase, Angelo Carbone, Lubor Fiedler, Mark Setteducati, Shinya Ooike, Simon Corneille, Steve Vil, Yasuo Amano, Brad Henderson, Tomoaki “Billy” Masuda, Atsushi Yoshida, Kenji Shimizu, and Tenyo demonstrators Kazumasa Shimizu and Jindai Nishikawa.

3. A sampler of Tenyo’s older magic sets and tricks from the 1930s through the early 1960s, as well as many of their marketed parlor magic props.

4. An entire book-within-a-book of other magic invented by the members of Tenyo’s Creative Division, past and present: Takuya Yoshizawa, Hideo Kato, Shigeru Sugawara, Hiroshi Kondo, Tomoyuki Shimomura, Toru Suzuki, Kenichi Komiya, Takayuki Kumazawa, Takahisa Inaba, and So Sato.

Each set will consist of:
* Two 700-page books bound in fine cloth in a slipcase
* Three DVDs with all of the official Tenyo demonstration videos plus many new effects
* The props for three Tenyo tricks not sold outside Japan.

This is our own version of Kickstarter: the books are all color and must be printed in China for the best quality. It’s expensive, and as a thank you to those who preorder now and assist in the task of helping get this book published, you will have a unique opportunity to have your name included on a special page at the back of the book as a thank you for your support in advance of publication.

Official Tenyo video with the 4 tricks

---------------------------------------------------------------

1-Future Puzzle created by Sou Sato
A box is shown with jigsaw puzzle pieces.  Spectator is ask to name any picture playing card.  (Jack, Queen or King of any suit.)  Box is opened and the puzzle pieces are dumped out.  Spectator is asked to assemble the puzzle.  When assembled, the card shown will match the one the spectator named

---------------------------------------------------------------

2- Magic of the plunger!
As part of the “World’s Greatest Magic” line, Tenyo is releasing their version of a contemporary trick that many professionals are using.  Spectator is shown a deck of cards and a tiny plunger.  Spectator is asked to name any number.  The plunger is then pressed on top of the deck.  When lifted, a number of cards get picked up with it.  The number of cards lifted match the chosen number.

Further,  Spectator selects a card and returns it anywhere in the deck and then shuffles the cards. Magician then asks spectator to think of the card. Magician places tiny plunger on spectator’s forehead to “extract their thoughts”. Magician then takes the plunger off spectator’s forehead and places it on top of the shuffled deck.  When lifted, a number of cards come off with the plunger with the chosen card remaining on top of the deck!

---------------------------------------------------------------

3- Strange Dog houseby Sou Sato
A white plastic container with three compartments is shown. A different color sponge dog is in each compartment.A spectator chooses a color and the container is covered. When it is opened the dogs have all changed to one color. It's a fun magic that uses a unique gimmick.

---------------------------------------------------------------

4- Ghost camera
Magician asks spectator to select a card, and put it back in the deck which is then shuffled. The deck is covered by a handkerchief. Magician takes a picture with a smart phone.  Magically, the selected card will appear in the photo, even though the cards can’t be seen within the handkerchief.

Bonus effect:  Spectator chooses one of 4 coins which are then placed on different corners of a handkerchief.  Magician then takes a picture with a smart phone.  Magically, the a hand will appear in the photo pointing to the selected coin, even though the hand can’t be seen on the handkerchief.

English:
This trick uses 8 cards, each pictured with the letter C in different orientation ( this is called the Landolt Ring Vision test, used for example in video game like Nintendo DS Vision Training), 4 are black and 4 are red. By using these unique cards you can perform two magic effects. In the first one the magician is able to determine if a card is red or black. In the second part of the routine the spectator cuts the cards as often as he wants and places three random cards in front of him. The cards are then covered with a handkerchief and you are able to identify the openings of the circles on the cards by using your magical 'black occlude'.
The gimmick designed by Sou Sato and Toru Suzuki is very very clever and devious. The qualityof the whole is is great as usual.
